I doubt there would be many arguments if I were to suggest that every pregnant woman would prefer their labour to be as pain free as possible, however for most that means opting for drugs such as Entonox (gas and air) Pethidine or having an epidural, a spinal injection of a steroid which alone poses additional and potentially serious risks or complications.
But there’s a new kid on the block! (excuse the pun) Well to be honest, hypnobirthing actually dates back to the 1940’s but hey, lets not get picky 🙂 It feels like something new and thankfully, it’s becoming more and more mainstream.
Celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Jessica Alba, Fearne Cotton, The Duchess of Cambridge have all used hypnobirthing as natural drug free and (well, almost) pain free way of bringing their beautiful babies safely into the world.
During an interview with a Brazilian TV show Gisele said “It wasn’t painful, not even a little bit. The whole time my head was so focused. I wanted to be conscious and present for what was happening. I didn’t want to be anaesthetised. I wanted to feel.”
Jessica Alba described her experience of hypnobirthing by saying “I’m just concentrating on breathing and staying relaxed because it’s when you get tense that makes the whole labour worse and more painful.”
Hypnobirthing doesn’t require any particular belief system or prior experience, some parents are skeptical at first until they actually experience it for themselves.
In hypnobirthing you will discover that excruciating pain does not have to be an accompaniment to labour and that any fears and anxieties you may currently have about giving birth will be dispelled. You will not be in a trance or a sleep, rather you will fully conscious and in fine spirits, totally relaxed and completely in control.
Just imagine welcoming each contraction feeling peaceful calm and beaming from ear to ear as your baby comes closer to you…just as nature intended.
